DHAKA: Prices of Bangladesh readymade garments (RMG) products are continuously falling in the US and European Union (EU) markets.
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) president Siddiqur Rahman made this comment at a press conference on Tuesday (January 26) at the organization’s conference room in city.
BGMEA president said, “The price of Bangladesh RMG products is continuously decreasing in the markets of two top RMG importers the US and EU”.
“Moreover, the expenditure in operating a garment factory has increased because of the developed security measures and increase of wages.”
According to the BGMEA boss, they have stood firmly after two disastrous incidents — Rana Plaza collapse and Tazrin Fashion fire in RMG industry.
“Give us the fair price of our products,” he urged.
“After the collapse of Rana Plaza, there are remarkable positive influences in our garments sector. So far, 20 factories have received green signals (considering safe) and 100 more are in the waiting list in getting green signals.”
“The international standard will be maintained in those factories,” he assured.
Siddiqur Rahman said that the orders of Bangladesh RMG products have increased from international market.
“We are moving ahead with the aim of earning $ 50-billion from RMG sector annually.”
Among others, BGMEA senior vice-president Faruk Hasan, director Saifuddin Ahmed, Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) vice-president Mansur Ahmed, among others, were present at the press conference.
