DHAKA: Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said the size of the upcoming 2016-17 fiscal year's budget would be Tk 3.40-lakh crore.
He made the disclosure in a pre-budget discussion at Planning Commission in city on Thursday (March 3).
Eminent economists, researchers and experts took part in the discussion.
The minister said, ‘We have planned about the size of budget for next fiscal. It will be about Tk 3.40-lakh crore’.
‘Moreover, growth has been projected at 7 percent.’
He said that maximum amount of development allocation has remained unspent in the current fiscal.
‘Only eight percent has been used, which is unsatisfactory.’
Highlighting particular part of the next budget, the minister said, ‘More mega projects will be taken. For this, separate capital program will be fixed which is being called capital budget. More mega projects involving five to six billion dollars would be taken’.
Bangladesh economy has remained in safer condition amid global recession since past several years. For last 20 years, Bangladesh’s growth stability is also satisfactory, the minister added.
