DHAKA: Dr Atiur Rahman said that he has resigned from the post of Bangladesh Bank governor for his moral obligation.

However, the former boss of country’s central bank has faced widespread criticism over the reserve heist.

‘The Prime Minster gave me the responsibility of Bangladesh Bank. So that I submitted my resignation to her,’ Dr Atiur told the media following his resignation at Gulshan in city on Tuesday (March 15).

‘The heist incident is under investigation. Legal actions will be taken against the culprits after getting the inquiry result.’

Expressing his gratefulness to the PM, the former BB chief said that he ran the central bank following the guidance of the premier.

‘When I came to the post, reserve of the central bank was six billions, now, it is 28 billions. I have introduced a new trend in Bangladesh banking sector,’ he added.

Terming cyber attack an earthquake, Dr Atiur said, Cyber attack is a global challenge. It is complicated and unknown to us. We should rethink about the security of bank reserve’.

‘Earlier, we faced ATM card forgery, now, we faced reserve heist. We should prepare ourselves to face any incident of this kind,’ he added.
