DHAKA: China is interested to cooperate in building a deep seaport in Bangladesh even in collaboration with other countries.

The Chinese government is also showing interest to invest more in Bangladesh and promising to continue military cooperation.

China ambassador to Bangladesh Ma Mingqiang told this at ‘DCAB Talk’ organized by Diplomatic Correspondents Association Bangladesh (DCAB) at National Press Club in city on Monday (March 21).

Ma Mingqiang said Bangladesh has to depend on Singapore or Sri Lanka to trade with other countries as there is no deep seaport on the Bay of Bengal.

“The Chinese government wants to be partner with Bangladesh in building a deep seaport on the bay.”

He said they have invested in the south Asian countries including India, Pakistan and Myanmar. Following its policy of unity, China is interested to be a part of the development of Bangladesh.

“Bangladesh has the target to become a middle income country by 2021. China will celebrate 100th founding anniversary of China Communist Party. So, the Chinese government wants to reduce the imbalance trade-relation with Bangladesh.”

“The country also targets to import products of $ 10 trillion from various countries among which Bangladesh can be a major exporter,” the envoy added.

While talking about terrorism, he said this is a global problem which can be prevented with joint initiatives.

The China government will not make a decision without investigating the matter. Just after the murder of two foreigners in Bangladesh the western counties alleged that ‘IS’ members are active in the country.

DCAB president Angur Nahar Monty and the general secretary Pantho Rahman also spoke at the event.
