DHAKA: A four-day international tourism fair has begun in city on Friday afternoon (April 8).
Civil aviation and tourism minister Rashed Khan Menon inaugurated the fair at Pan Pacific Sonargaon hotel.
The minister in his inaugural speech highlighted the historic and touristic attractions in Bangladesh and said that world famous travelers including Ibn Battuta and Hiuen Tsang visited Bangladesh several hundreds years ago after being attracted by its cultural richness.
‘We are trying to attract one million tourists by 2018 as the country has a good number of touristic spots.’
The fair has been organized by fortnightly newspaper ‘The Bangladesh Monitor’ with Bangladesh Tourism Board and Biman Bangladesh Airlines as partners and private airliner Novoair as the title sponsor.
Around 50 organizations from several countries are attending the fair, to remain open from 10:00am to 8:00pm till April 11.
