Bourses end week on a high

DHAKA: The two bourses of the country -- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) -- witnessed gain in share prices indices on Thursday (May 19), the final trading session of the week.

DSEX, the prime index of DSE, gained over 28.56 points or 0.65 percent to stand at 4392.87 points at the end of day’s trading.

Trade deals stood at 116,182 with transaction at over Tk 4,247.67 million. Of the issues traded, 208 advanced, 57 declined while 36 remained unchanged.

Shahjibazar Power Co. Ltd. topped the turnover list with shares worth Tk193.50 million having changed hands on the day.

Other toppers of the market were United Power Generation & Distribution Company Ltd., Lafarge Surma Cement Ltd., MJL Bangladesh Limited, Bangladesh Steel Re-Rolling Mills Limited, BSRM Steels Limited, Emerald Oil Industries Ltd., Doreen Power Generations and Systems Limited, IFAD Autos Limited and Khan Brothers PP Woven Bag Industries Limited.

Meanwhile, the CSE also followed the trend as CSCX, the prime index of the port city bourse, acquired over 67.33 points to stand at 8240.29 on Thursday.

Of the issues traded in the port city share market, 162 advanced, 47 declined while 20 remained unchanged.

The total value of exchange was over Tk 265.35 million.
