FROM BANGKOK: A three-day Bangladesh Trade and Investment Expo has begun Monday (May 30) in Thailand to expand export basket and attract foreign direct investment.
Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and Bangladesh Embassy in Thailand have organized the event at Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre in Bangkok.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed and Thai Commerce Minister Apiradi Tantraporn inaugurated the expo jointly in the morning with a colorful program.
State minister for power Nasrul Hamid, state minister for telecom Tarana Halim and, women and children affairs minister Meher Afroz Chumki also graced the program.
Some 55 export-oriented companies have showcased their products in the expo titled ‘Bangladesh trade and investment expo 2016, which marked the 44th year of diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and Thailand.
Over 1200 business delegates including 200 Thai companies and business chambers are also likely to participate in the three-day event.
The expo will enable the exporters and business delegations to sit together in an investment conference and networking sessions to explore the areas of business and investment.
Sectors like ship building, ship breaking, energy and alternative energy, silk, handicraft, travel and tourism, agro machinery, diamond jewellery will also be discussed.
Besides, the expo is also likely to create scopes for investing in special economic zones in Bangladesh by Thai investors.
