DHAKA: Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said the final report about cyber heist of foreign reserve at Bangladesh Bank (BB) will be published from 15 to 20 days.
He told this to the media after receiving the investigation report submitted by three-member committee led by former BB governor Dr Farashuddin at secretariat office in city around 2:15pm Monday (May 30).
The minister said the government’s main purpose is to find out the process how the robbery happened so that they can reform the internal system to prevent such incident in future.
Dr Farashuddin thanked BB authorities for their support on investigation. They tried to detect the accused, their motives and find out a possible way to return the robbed money.
However, they can not detect whether the foreign cyber criminals were involved or not as it was out of the investigation group’s scope.
Incumbent BB governor Fazle Kabir, probe committee member Professor Dr. Mohammad Kaikobad of BUET’s science and engineering department and finance ministry’s additional secretary Gokul Chand Das were present during the report submission.
Earlier, the committee submitted an interim report to the minister on April 20.
On the next day, Muhith said he would publish the full version of the report so that countrymen can know what happened.
In early February, hackers robbed $ 81 millions from Bangladesh Bank’s account.
The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported the theft at the end of February.
