Bourses start week with loss after Eid vacation

DHAKA: After nine days of Eid-ul-Fitr vacation, the benchmark indices of the country’s two bourses – Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) – opened on Sunday (July 10).

After the end of first day’s trading session, both bourses witnessed loss.

The key index of Dhaka Stock Exchange, DSEX, lost over 12.39 points and 0.27 percent to stand at 4495.18 at the end of day’s exchange.

Trade deals stood at 53,092 with transaction at Tk 2095.49 million.

Of the issues traded, 73 advanced, 205 declined and 35 remained unchanged.

The Islami Bank topped the turnover list with shares worth Tk 110.50 million having changed hands on the day.

Other toppers of the market were Lafarge Surma Cement Ltd, ACME Laboratories Limited, Square Pharmaceuticals Ltd, City Bank, National Feed Mill Limited, National Bank Ltd, Bangladesh Steel Re-Rolling Mills Limited, Shahjibazar Power Co. Ltd and Aman Feed Limited.

Chittagong stocks also followed the trend, as CSCX, the prime index, came down to 8387.66 by falling down 8.98 points on the day.

Out of the issues traded, 65 gained, 147 declined and 19 remained unchanged. The total value of exchange was over Tk 114.98 million.
