Week starts with loss in bourses

DHAKA: The two bourses of the country -- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) -- witnessed loss in share price indices on Sunday (August 21), the first trading session of the week.

DSEX, the prime index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), shed over 6.05 points or 0.13 percent to stand at 4579.03 points at the end of day’s trading.

Trade deals stood at 122,668 with transaction at over Tk 4706.97 million. Of the issues traded, 83 advanced, 169 declined and 70 remained unchanged.

Shahjibazar Power Co. Ltd. topped the turnover list with shares worth Tk 280.97 million having changed hands on the day.

Other toppers of the market were National Tubes Limited, Aman Feed Limited, MJL Bangladesh Limited, Lafarge Surma Cement Ltd., Al-Haj Textile, Quasem Drycells, Beximco Pharma and Square Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also followed the suit, as CSCX, the prime index of the port city bourse, lost over 11.23 points to stand at 8572.49 points on the day.

Of the issues traded in the port city share market, 83 gained, 145 declined and 32 remained unchanged. The total value of exchange was over Tk 261.06 million.
