Police in the port city Chattogram have fired tear shells, sound grenades and rubber bullets targeting students who were protesting against ‘disappearance, murder and false cases'.
The agitators when assembled at press club in Jamal Khan area today (July 29) at 3 pm to announce their upcoming program, members of the law enforcers warped the move using sound grenade and tear gas.
Later, the 25-30 agitators gathered at the city’s Cheragir mor and started chanting slogans.
However, several people were arrested by the Chattogram police before and after the rally.
According to eyewitnesses and demonstrators, first sound grenades and tear shells were fired to disperse the protestors. After that, the police used batons to remove the students.
In this incident, Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Kotwali Zone Assistant Police Commissioner Atanu Chakraborty including several members was injured.
Sound grenade and tear gas were fired to bring the situation under control, said CMP to media.
However, two journalists were also injured while collecting news.
They are Akmal Hossain, photojournalist of Dainik Desh Rupantar and News24 cameraman Md. Abu Javed.
