The body of six-year-old Muntaha, who went missing from her home on November 3, was recovered from a pond in Sylhet's Kanaighat upazila early Sunday.
Muntaha Aktar Jerin was the daughter of Shamim Ahmed from Bharafoud village in the Birdal union of Kanaighat upazila.
Md Abdul Awal, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kanaighat police station, confirmed the matter to Banglanews.
Her body which was recovered from a pond near her house at around 4 am, had signs of injury and her throat had been tied with ropes, he said.
She might have been murdered and then dumped into the pond, the OC added.
Muntaha’s father said that his daughter was abducted in a premeditated manner, prompting the family to file a general diary at the police station.
The child went missing on November 3 after she left home in the afternoon to play with other kids.
