Army recovers 5,500 kg of government rice in Sirajganj

Members of army in a raid recovered around 5,500 kg of rice meant for the government’s food-friendly program from the home of a former school teacher in Kazipur of Sirajganj.

The raid was conducted on Thursday (Nov 7) in the Beripotal area of Sadar Union. 

Acting on a tip-off, the army, led by Acting Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sabirna Akter, recovered the rice stored in the warehouse of Jahangir Alam, a former teacher at Tarakandi High School.

According to local sources, the rice, which was packed in Nazirsail and Miniket sacks, was stored illegally in Alam’s house. 

The recovered rice has been sealed, confirmed the Acting Commander of Kazipur Army Camp, Senior Warrant Officer Md. Shariful Islam, who assisted in the operation. 

However, no arrests have been made so far.

Sabirna Akter said the raid uncovered 183 sacks, totaling 5,490 kg of rice, intended for government distribution under the food-friendly program. 

She directed the local food warehouse authorities to file a regular case regarding the incident.
