A Dhaka court today (December 1) sentenced five people to life imprisonment in a case lodged for gouging out the eyes of a businessman in the capital's Demra area in 2008.
The five convicts are - Bijoy alias Shamim Ahammed, Dwin Islam, Md Iqbal, Nasu alias Naser Uddin and Rajib.
Dhaka third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sheikh Samidul Islam passed the judgment.
The court also fining the convicts 10,000 each, to suffer three-month more behind the bars in default. The court also acquitted four others of the charges.
According to the case documents, victim Rajibul Alam was returning to his home from the Demra Board Mill area on a rickshaw around 8:50 pm on November 27, 2008.
The convicts stopped him and dragged him to a vacant plot. Then, they tied his hands and legs and hit on his head with a brick. The convicts gouged out both his eyes with a sharp weapon.
Rajibul's father Shah Alam filed an attempt to murder case with Demra Police Station on November 28, 2008.
