Rohingya camp fire kills child, ravages 619 shelters

An 8-year-old boy was killed and 619 shelters after a fire broke out at Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar today (Dec 24).

The deceased could not be identified immediately, Banglanews Correspondent reports.

According to locals, the fire broke out around 1 pm at Camp-1 in the Kutupalong area. 

Army personnel, firefighters, and local volunteers worked together to bring the blaze under control by 2:30 pm, they added.

Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge Arif Hossain confirmed the matter.

He said that the fire spread rapidly due to strong winds. However, the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
