Police have arrested Mahfuzur Rahman Konok, a former Sub-Inspector (SI) of Narayanganj Detective Branch (DB) police, for his alleged involvement in the killing of Jubo Dal leader Shawon during BNP's anniversary program.

Konok was apprehended on Friday (Jan 3) night, at his workplace in Dhaka Airport’s 13th APBn office, confirmed Nasir Uddin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station. 

Nasir Uddin said, he is the 16th accused in the murder case. Police have sought a seven-day remand for further questioning after producing him in court.

On September 1, 2022 when BNP activists organized a rally in the DIT area of Narayanganj to mark the party's founding anniversary. Clashes erupted near the Twin Rail Gate area as police tried to stop the rally. During the altercation, Shawon was killed by gunfire allegedly from a Chinese rifle.

According to eyewitnesses and media reports from the scene accused Konok of firing shots during the clash. Photos of him holding a rifle were widely circulated in the media following the incident.
