DHAKA: Mystery shrouds the death of a teenage maid of a police officer at his house at Ramna Police Complex in the city.

Ramna Thana police Sunday recovered the body of Noorunnahar Akhter, 14, from Sub-inspector Abdul Quddus’ home.

The deceased, daughter of Md Nurul Islam, came to the capital for work from Mirjaganj in the fur-flung coastal district of Potuakhali.

Ramna thana duty officer Rozina Begum said Noorunnahar might have committed suicide.

SI Abdul Quddus said, “Me and other family members went to bed at around 11:3pm Saturday. In the morning, we found the door of the room wherein Noorunnahar used to sleep closed. Later, my wife through the keyhole found her hanging from the ceiling fan.”

He also said his wife Shampa Akhtar informed him that two younger sisters of Noorunnahar went missing that could prompt her to commit suicide.
