DHAKA: Five officials of the National University, including its Vice-chancellor Tofael Ahmed, had to stand in a High Court dock for an hour during the whole period of contempt-of-court proceedings against them Sunday.
The four others are College Inspector Anwar Hossain, Dean Dr MM Abu Raihan, Registrar Firoz Ahmed Akhter and controller of examinations Badruzzaman.
A High Court division bench comprising justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury and justice Delwar Hossain kept them standing in the dock as they disregarded the court’s summons.
The court, however, exonerated all of them from the allegation when they sought unconditional apology for the non-compliance with the HC call.
The High Court directed them to carry out its orders within next 10 sessions.
ASM Nurul Islam and Abdul Mannan filed a writ petition on April 7 on behalf of THDPS College, SB Science and Technology College and Shahid Monayem Hossain College, as the colleges of Bogra were not on the MPO (Monthly Payment Order) list.
The HC had directed the National University to include the colleges in the list for government grants for staff salary and allow the students of those colleges to sit for examinations.
Later on May 18, the court recorded submissions on the allegation of disregarding the court’s order.
However, the court again directed them to include the colleges in MPO list.
