Dinajpur: The provisional miners of Maddhyapara Granite Mining Company Ltd (MGMCL) called off their indefinite strike Wednesday, four days after they struck demanding job regularization and payment of arrears, following a fruitful negotiation.
The hardrock workers withdrew the strike after the MGMCL authorities assured them of fulfilling all their demands within one year, reports banglanews24.com.bd Dinajpur correspondent.
The assurance came from a meeting held on Wednesday noon between the MGMCL authorities and the leaders of the worker-employees’ union.
Managing Director Farook Hossain and three deputy general managers were present at the meeting while President of the union Mainul Islam and General Secretary Mustafizur Rahman were on the union side.
Earlier, the management and the trade-union leaders last night held a meeting, which ended in failure to break the deadlock.
Besides, the agitating miners, who enforced the strike on Saturday midnight, had kept confined 35 officials and staff members, including the managing director, in the complex since Monday night.
