Dhaka: One of the suspects in SI Mizanur Rahaman murder was killed in a “gunfight” with plainclothes police on Tuesday night, in a resumption of anticrime action commonly called ‘crossfire’ after a relative pause.
Police sources gave identity of the deceased as Rahat, the “ringleader of a muggers’ gang”.
Detective Branch of police sources told banglanews that acting on information yielded by two arrested snatchers—Suman and Razu--they raided the Beribadh area at Pallabi.
“Sensing the presence of the police, Rahat along with his associates started firing on them. At one stage of the gunfight, Rahat got caught in the line of fire and fell dead,” says a DB account of the late-night shootout.
His cohorts, however, fled the scene.
The DB police claimed that Rahat might have had connection with the murder of SI Mizanur Rahman, who was found dead in Tangail on his way home from Dhaka.
According to police, Suman was arrested from Madaripur and Raju from Mirpur area Tuesday.
One police official said, “During interrogation, the arrested persons confessed to having killed the police man. We are now looking for another member of the gang to unveil the mystery over the murder.”
