ACC sues city mayor`s daughter on graft charge

DHAKA: The Anti-Corruption Commission Sunday sued Sarika Sadeque, daughter of Dhaka City Corporation Mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka, on a graft charge as a long-pending notice seeking an account of her wealth went unheeded.

Assistant Director of the anti-graft watchdog body Md Shamsul Alam lodged the case with Ramna thana, bringing allegation of not submitting her wealth statement, said Officer-in-Charge Shibli Noman of the police station.

A notice had been served to Sarika way back on September 8 in 2008 for submitting statement of her assets, deemed inherited from her father, within seven days, the plaintiff pointed out.

“Sarika is the owner of her father’s illegal wealth and much of the Mayor’s moveable and immovable property is amassed under her name,” it is stated in the case to justify the notice of the past emergency times seeking her wealth statement and the eventual legal move.

“She failed to show the sources of the ill-gotten fortunes," says the ACC in suing the daughter of the sitting city father and veteran BNP leader.
