DHAKA: Bangladesh Sunday signed four accords with Yunnan Province of China to facilitate cooperation in agriculture, energy, education and tourism sectors.
The memorandums of understanding were signed at Hotel Sonargaon between the officials concerned of the two sides following talks on the occasion of visit of Governor of Yunnan Qin Guangrong.
Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister GM Quader, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid and State Minister for Power Enamul Huq were present at the signing ceremony.
The visiting Governor of Yunnan, Qin Guangrong, and his entourage members were also present.
Both Bangladesh and China have plans to connect Kunming, the capital of Yunnan, with Chittagong by road and rail crossing over Myanmar.
During the visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to China in March this year, she discussed the issue with her counterpart and agreed to be connected through road and railway.
Although there wasn’t any accord signed Sunday on connectivity with Yunnan, Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain during the official talks said: "We look forward to establishing direct road and rail links to China via Myanmar.”
He hoped that the Yunnan government would take the leadership for early implementation of the cross-border connectivity.
The Yunnan Governor will leave Dhaka on Monday afternoon.
