PM asks for increasing researchersÔÇÖ facilities

DHAKA: Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina asked the authorities concerned to enhance funds and facilities for researchers and to relax their job-age limit.

She gave the directive while presiding over the weekly cabinet meeting Monday that endorsed a new law on agricultural research.

Quoting Sheikh Hasina, her press secretary Abul Kalam Azad later told reporters that country’s research sectors should be given priority and initiatives should be taken to ensure a sound fund for researchers.

The cabinet approved the proposed Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (Amendment) Act 2010 aimed at boosting the country’s agricultural research, especially in the field of rice and jute.

“The prime minister also put emphasis on agricultural research, especially in jute and rice,” Azad said.

Cabinet members, advisers and other officials attended the meeting.
