Action to be taken for harbouring Shibir, JCD men, PM warns BCL

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Tuesday warned that stern action would be taken against those who gave shelter to Shibir and Chhatra Dal members in Chhatra League, as the suspected infiltrators are blamed by the ruling party’s leaders for misdeeds.

“We have collected lists of those who sheltered Shibir and Chhatra Dal activists in Chhatra League and action will be taken against them,” said Sheikh Hasina at a discussion.

Chhatra League, the student wing of her Awami League party, organised the meeting at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center marking the National Mourning Day.

The premier also said, “There are some ‘always-government-party’ men who change their party identity for their own sake. Some Chhatra League activists are also involved in giving them, particularly Shibir and Chhatra Dal members, shelter to strengthen their group.”

“Such practice will be halted,” the PM said, indicating a purge of the political turncoats.

She also thanked Chhatra League for expelling 50 of its members on charges of several misdeeds.

“The persons involved will also be sued and arrested, if necessary,” the AL chief said.
