DHAKA: The government has decided to construct cross dam at Urir Char in Noakhali with the object of reclamation around 600 kilometers land.
“A Tk 37.40 crore project has been taken up to recover the land of Urir Char,” State Minister for Environment Dr. Hasan Mahmud said after ending a meeting of climate change trustee board at the Secretariat.
The project, to be financed by climate change fund, will begin this year and expected to be completed by June 2012.
The state minister said the rivers of the country carry silt and drain those to the sea, which can be used for recovering the land.
The meeting approved four projects including reclamation of land of Urir Char.
The other projects are: setting up of a Tk 23 crore Botanical Garden in Chittagong, Tk 25 crore digital mapping project and Tk 2.75 crore project for Kumira Ferry terminal.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, Food Minister Dr Abdur Razzak, Health Minister Dr AFM Ruhul Huq and Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman were present at the meeting.
