First case under cyber law for hacking, password piracy

CHITTAGONG: Country’s first case under cyber law has been registered in the port city against seven businessmen on charges of email-password piracy and server hacking.

Captain Mohiuddin Abdul Kader, a marine businessman and managing director of Hareson International in Agrabad business hub, Tuesday sued the seven other businessmen in the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Helal Uddin.

This is the first time a case has been lodged under the Information Communications Technology Act 2006.

The court asked Doublemooring thana officer-in-charge to submit an investigation report on the alleged cyber heist.

The accused in the case are Captain Ahmed Ruhullah of Banani in Dhaka, Captain Delwar Hossain in Chandanpura, M. Yusuf-uz-Zaman in Khulshi area and Aminul Islam Nazir in Andarkilla of  Chittagong, Zillur Rahman Bhuiyan in Kalabagan of Dhaka, his daughter Anika Bhuiyan and business partner Kamrul Hasan.

According to the allegation, the accused persons opened a business firm after the name of Hareson International and hacked into the email server and took password to contact international buyers in 2009.

Mohiuddin Abdul Kader contacted the international offices as he failed to open his email accounts on December 23, 2009. Later he came to know that his accounts were hacked and the accused were using the contacts, causing “losses worth crores of taka”.

Advocate Rana Das Gupta moved for the complainant.
