Govt. to decide on Industrial Police Thursday

DHAKA: The government is bent on introducing Industrial Police at a cost of Tk 20.30 crore with around 3,000 members in the force to start with.

A high-level meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office will finalise the new police unit’s formation and discuss its modus operandi, official sources said.

“We have taken the decision in principle to form the industrial police unit which will initially begin with 3000 members. The plan also got the nod from the finance department,” Home Secretary Abdus Sobhan Shikder told banglanews24.com.bd.

The cops of the unit will be deployed in Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Savar and other industrial zones to thwart violence.

Flare-ups of labour unrest rocked different belts in recent times over pay hike, including a spell of marauding through the capital’s posh Gulshan area.
