DHAKA: A couple of general diaries have been lodged with Shahbagh police station against an emailed threat of blowing up important establishments if four top Jamaat-e-Islami leaders facing the war-crime trial are not freed.

Supreme Court Deputy Registrar Sheikh Hafizur Rahman and Shahbagh thana officer-in-charge filed two separate diaries following the threat received Tuesday.

“It’s a laughing matter,” OC Rezaul Karim told banglanews24.com.bd about the phony email that carried some phone numbers of commoners.

It was found out in the investigation that the mobile-phone numbers given in the message are all used by common people of different areas of the country, he said.

The diaries were lodged in the wake of threat over email, which was sent to the Law Commission Chairman stating that important establishments would be blown up in serial attacks if the detained top four Jamaat-e-Islami leaders are not set free before the fast-coming Eid-ul-Fitr.

However, Law Minister Barrister Shafiq Ahmed said the government cannot be cowed out from the trial of war criminals by issuing threats.
