DHAKA: Home Minister Sahara Khatun asked police officials to be more vigilant in maintaining law and order and reducing traffic congestion ahead of Eid, as a tremendous rush is on steam now, especially for a shopping binge.

“The largest number of police personnel has been deployed in the city and they are working to reduce traffic jam also,” said Sahara to reporters at Kalabagan during her visit to have a firsthand view of the law-and-order situation of the capital ahead of the upcoming Eid festival.

The Home Minister also moved around New Market and Mirpur road of the city.

To start with, she visited New Market and Gawsia market and talked to shoppers and shopkeepers. She sought information about problem with law-and-order situation, including extortion and eve-teasing crimes.

Businessmen informed the Home Minister that the law-and-order situation is better off now. Besides, buyers and sellers told the minister about severe traffic jams around the market.

State Minister for Home Samsul Islam Tuku, newly appointed Inspector-General of Police Hasan Mahmud Khandarker and new Director-General of the Rapid Action Battalion Mokhlesur Rahman accompanied the internal security minister during the spot inspection.
