Dhaka: Two schoolboys drowned while swimming with friends to enjoy summer vacation in Hatirjheel waters in the capital on Saturday noon.

The deceased were identified as Tusher and Kaiser, both students of Magbazaar T&T High School.

Friends of the victims said due to the SSC result the school was closed today before the due time and it announced a holiday for Sunday.

On their way home, a group of cheerful students, including Tusher and Kaiser, felt the lure of having a swim in Hatirjheel Lake. “While swimming, suddenly Tusher and Kaiser went under,” says a firsthand account of the tragic scene.

Nasima Begum, mother of Kaiser, told banglanews24.com.bd, “Local people rescued them from the pond as their friends cried for help. Later, Tusher was rushed to Holy Family Red Crescent Hospital and Kaiser to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where both of them were declared dead.”
