DHAKA: Newly appointed Director-General of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Mokhlesur Rahman wouldn’t like to see involvement of the elite force in any kind of extrajudicial killings.
“RAB, which is carrying out its effort to establish a crime-free society, can never commit any illegal act, including extrajudicial killings,” said the RAB chief at a view-exchange meeting with journalists in the city’s RAB headquarters Sunday.
He, however, said that the elite force cannot flee the scene if it is attacked by terrorists with firearms.
But the authority would punish any RAB personnel through legal procedure if they violate the rules and indulge in extrajudicial activities.
“I believe everyone will discharge one’s duty with professionalism, rising above personal interest and vengeance,” said the new chief of the anticrime force in his maiden press meet after taking office.
Moklesur Rahman said they would work with efficiency, transparency and neutrality to keep the country’s law-and-order situation normal.
“We will play our role in curbing militancy apart from suppressing extremists in the country’s southwestern region,” he said in disclosing a new plan for procuring helicopter and opening two new battalions to bolster the force.
