DU goes online: separate website launched for admission

DHAKA: The University of Dhaka opened a separate website on admission so applicants can do the process online for getting admitted into the country’s premier varsity averting toils of the complaint-ridden old system.

Vice-chancellor of the university Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the website admission.univdhaka.edu at Registrar’s building on Tuesday morning.

Professor Siddque said the authorities decided to launch the site to facilitate the applicants economically and to avoid hassles, especially for the female candidates from the country’s remote areas.

Replying to a question he said, “We believe that the applicants will be able to take the opportunity from their respective areas.

"Basically, we are going to shift the admission system from human transportation to tele-transportation."

He also said, “The admission process would be completed cent percent online by internal resources of the university.”

A seven-member technical committee led by Prof Hasibur Rashid is on duty for the site management. The important directions will also be available for applicants on the website.

The admission process starts on September 27 and continues till October 14. The admission tests under ‘Ka’ unit will be held on November 5, ‘Kha’ on October 29, ‘Ga’ November 26, ‘Gha’ unit on December 3 and ‘Cha’ unit on December 10.

A control-room at the registrar’s building was also opened to monitor the activities.

But English-medium and foreign students have to follow manual process, as their result-documents have not yet been received by the authority.

Pro-Vice-chancellor Professor Harun-or-Rashid, Treasurer Professor Mizanur Rahman and Deans from different faculties attended the inaugural programme.
