DHAKA: All departments of the police have been put on the alert in the capital city to maintain law and order during the Eid holiday, as all are agog to celebrate the big Muslim festival.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner AKM Shahidul Haque spoke of the security alignment Wednesday, as a three-day Eid-ul-Fitr vacation begins Thursday.
The DMP commissioner was talking to reporters after distributing new clothes among the staff members of Rajarbagh Police Lines and poor people in the morning.
The clothes have been bought with the money collected from the salaries and allowances of police officers.
He also said country’s law-and-order situation is “quite well and police members are working sincerely to ensure people’s safety”.
Later he visited Kamalapur Railway Station to look into the overall condition of outbound people on their eid journey.
