RAJSHAHI: A suspected outlaw was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between his cohorts and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) personnel at Ramrama village in Baghmara upazila early Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Ratan alias Titas, 28, a regional leader of the banned leftist outfit Purbo Banglar Communist Party (M-L) Janajuddha.
He was son of Abdur Rashid Dukhu of Ramrama village.
A Rab member told Banglanews that, on information, a special team of Rab-5 raided the village where some alleged outlaws were holding a "secret meeting" at around 1:30 am.
"Sensing the presence of Rab members, the outlaws opened fire on them, prompting them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight," said the RAB source.
At one stage, the outlaws managed to flee the scene and Titas’ body was found lying on the ground later.
Rab later recovered one pistol, one shooter gun, six bullets and leaflets from the spot.
A number of cases, including murder and extortion, were pending against him with different police stations.
