Govt frees a number of convicts countrywide on Eid

DHAKA: Some more convicts were set free from different jails on government mercy on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, being celebrated Saturday in the country.

Eleven inmates, convicted to various terms, were released from Khulna jail Friday.

The convicts are Dulal Sheikh, 25, Kamal Sikdar, 41, Boli Sarker, 30, Sahidur Rahman, 31, Sattar Hossain, 48, Mansur Sarder, 38, Ibrahim Khan, 33, Debranjan Dutta, 70, Al-Amin, 20, Yusuf Ali, 21, and Abul Hossain, 55.

They were sentenced to jail for around five years.

Khulna jailor Nazrul Islam said, "After getting instructions from the Home Ministry, the prisoners were finally released."

Thirteen convicts walked to freedom from Chittagong central jail. They are Omar Ali, Abu Bakkar, Aiyub Ali, Kajal Sardar, Mantu Mian, Abdul Odud, Abdus Sukkur, Nurul Amin, Saiful Islam, SIrajul Islam, Badsah Mia, Nasima Aktar and Asia Khatun.

According to the jail authorities, most of them were serving six months to three years’ jail sentences.
