RAJSHAHI: A top leader of the banned Ilamist outfit JMB and main aide to Bangla Bhai, Mostafizur Rahman, locally known as ‘killer Mostak’, was arrested again while coming out of Rajshahi Central Jail on bail on Thursday night.
A competent source said plainclothes police picked him up as soon as he walked out of the jail-gate at around 930pm.
There were rumours that Mostak, a resident of the city’s Boalia area, went missing after his release from jail.
On Friday afternoon, police produced the suspected militant in the district court.
Mostak’s maternal uncle Mamunur Rashid said, “Police re-arrested Mostak after he had been freed from jail on bail on Thursday.”
A case was filed with Boalia thana against him, but officer-in-charge of the police station Shahadat Hossain denied the matter.
Assistant Commissioner Tariqul Islam said,”I was on leave so I did not know anything regarding the matter.” He made the statement when the correspondent communicated with him over phone.
There were 18 cases against Mostak on charges of killings, repression and extortion.
He was arrested in 2006, as the debacle came down on the vigilantes after their reign of terror in the region and then in other parts of the country. Bangla Bhai and other main leaders of the group were eventually hanged.
