DHAKA: Another earthquake shook different parts of the country at around 1pm Saturday just hours after two moderate tremors rattled central Bangladesh on Friday midnight.
The tremor, one of two stronger-than-moderate aftershocks on the trail of a weaker first quake, was felt in Dinajpur, Kurigram, Sherpur, Naogaon and Jamalpur districts. But there have been no reports of casualties.
Met office said it was a "moderate" tremor, measuring 5.2 on Richter scale. The epicenter of the quake was in Assam of India, it added.
The quake occurred at around 1pm and lasted a few seconds, reports banglanews districts’ correspondents.
Earlier, two moderate earthquakes, the second measuring 4.8 on Richter scale, jolted Dhaka and parts of Bangladesh in a span of half an hour on Friday night, panicking Dhaka residents and forcing many out of their homes hours before Eid.
The first tremor was felt for few seconds at 10:42pm while the second one with the magnitude of 4.8 on the Richter scale also lasted for a while and shook the country at 11:24:17pm.
According to the US Geological Survey and National Earthquake Information Center, the magnitude of the quake was 4.8. "The depth of the quake was 14.1 kilometer" down the earth surface, said the survey.
The epicenter of the tremor was not far from the capital--it jolted different areas from 46 kilometers southeast of Dhaka, from 48 kilometers west of Comilla and 59 Kilometres southeast from Tongi.
Besides, earthquakes were felt in different parts of the country, including Savar, Madaripur, Sirajganj, Kishoreganj, Narayanganj, Chandpur, Narsingdi, Gopalganj, Munshiganj, Pirojpur, Bhairab, Brahmanbaria, Manikganj, Laxmipur, Khulna, Shariatpur and Rajbari on Friday night.
