SAVAR: The Livestock Directorate Sunday said there was no relation between anthrax and the death of huge numbers of ducks, hens and birds in Dhamrai area, allaying fears about spread of the cattle disease.
“We did not find any germ of anthrax by testing the collected samples from dead birds,” said Ashraf Ali, director-general of the directorate.
He advised the common people not to worry about the matter.
Nevertheless, he did not confirm the cause of the mass deaths of the fowls.
Habibur Rahman, livestock officer of Dhamrai upazila, said, “We have temporarily established a camp at Dhamrai to make people conscious.”
Dr Mossaddek Hossain, Deputy Director of Dhaka Divisional Livestock Department office, said it might have happened due to "cholesterol poisoning".
He also said the germ of anthrax does not spread among the birds.
