Trawler capsizes in Bagerhat: 3 missing

BAGERHAT: Three passengers went missing as a trawler carrying a group of tourists from Meherpur capsized in the River Pashur within the Sundarbans haunts in Mongla on Monday morning.

The missing people are Basedul, 17, Samin, 18, and Mohan, 14, of Meherpur frontier district.

Witnesses said the MV Tiger with 55 passengers on board sailed for Karamjal within the Sundarbans mangrove forests from Mongla Kheya ghat at about 9:30am.

“But, after a few minutes, the trawler sank in the estuary of Mongla seaport channel and the Pashur River. All but three passengers managed to swim ashore,” said one of the tourists on board the trawler.

Coastguard divers were conducting rescue operation when the report came at 6pm.

Law enforcers have been deployed on the spot after the ferry accident.
