Top extremist leader arrested in Meherpur

MEHERPUR: Police arrested a suspected regional commander of outlawed party ‘Lal Pataka’ from Hemayetpur village in Gangni upazila Tuesday morning.

Police in association with local people arrested Jalaluddin alias Swapan Babu, 35, when he went to the house of one Dalim for collecting toll from him.

Witnesses said Swapan threw bomb at Dalim’s house as he denied giving the extortion money. Hearing the sound of explosion, people chased Jalaluddin.

At that time, members of a local police camp rushed in and held the outlawed party leader.
   
Gangni thana Officer-in-Charge Motiar Rahman said Swapan was wanted in a number of cases filed with Gangni and Alamdanga thanas.
