COMILLA: A robber was caught and lynched by a mob at village Paschim Jangalia in Sadar upazila early Tuesday while fleeing after committing robbery at the house of an expatriate.

SI Maniruzzaman of Comilla Kotwali Thana told Banglanews, “A gang of 15 robbers swooped on the house of Sirajul Islam at about 3:30am and looted Tk 47,000 in cash and seven tolas of gold ornament.

The gang also injured Sirajul and his daughter and left the house with the booty.

Hearing a hue and cry raised by the residents, local people chased the bandits and managed to catch one of them.
“They beat up the robber mercilessly, leaving him dead on the spot,” says a spot account of the mass beating. Identity of the deceased, aged about 25, could not be known.

On information, police rushed in and recovered the body. They also seized four cocktails from the spot. A case was filed with Kotowali Thana.
