DHAKA: The government has decided in principle to form a separate job commission styled Public Service Commission-Education, according a differential treatment to the teaching community.
Sources in the ministry of establishment said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already given the go to the proposal. She has also approved proposed amendment to the Public Service Commission Ordinance 1977.
Determining the organogram and tenure of the proposed commission is going on, the source confirmed.
It is going to be a six-member commission headed by a chairman.
The proposal says, “Once formed, the commission would help in taking quick and effective measures in appointment and promotion of teachers for the government educational institutions.”
For a lack of manpower the appointment process in 27 cadres of PSC always get delayed. A separate commission must help accelerate the process, a senior official of the establishment ministry said.
Statistics available in the ministry of education say at present 14,447 posts are lying vacant in government colleges and teacher-training colleges.
Besides, due to promotions and retirements many posts are continuously falling vacant.
A new commission, specialized in education, would help the government better handle these problems, the ministry officials hoped.
