DHAKA: Society is developing with the dynamics of faster development of the globe. Crimes, too, are getting globalized concomitant with the fast-moving world.

The various offences now happening in society like cyber and email crimes, pornography on phone and Internet, eve-teasing, illicit abortion, credit-card tampering, religious fundamentalism, militancy and phone threat came under the spotlight in this context.

Deputy Inspector-General of police of Dhaka range Md Mokhlesur Rahman revealed the information at a view-exchange meeting with journalists after Eid at his office Wednesday.  

He said, “Drugs are now scattered like mushroom across society and most youths--male or female--are addicted to phensidyl, yaba or heroin.”

Besides, doctors, engineers, police, administration officials and businessmen are also getting addicted, he added.

“Even some people attend their office in intoxicated condition,” he said.

He informed that the CDs of pornography are being sold everywhere like ‘muri-murki’.

“This is encouraging our youths to commit crime, and the rate of illicit abortion is increasing day by day for immoral relationship between the male and the female,” he said.

The high police official also alleged that the cheating activities are a common phenomenon in society through fake account of facebook and e-mail.      


He went on to say that country’s food chain is affected now for worldwide food-adulteration syndicate.

Doing such an extensive anatomy of the crime situation, the DIG called upon people of all strata of society, including media personalities, to come forward to stop the rot.
