DHAKA: Speaker Abdul Hamid Advocate urged all to get an all-party unity against poverty to its ultimate goal through defeating the common foe with a synergy.
He made the call on Friday afternoon while presiding over an anti-poverty national campaign at the south plaza of the National Parliament building. He is the chairperson of the campaign committee and main patron of All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPGs) on extreme poverty.
“We not only will step backward but also will fall into grave danger with the huge population under poverty line if the government and the opposition failed to get united. It will banish the dream of the new generation to step forward with heads up.” said the speaker.
He reconfirmed keeping up his impartial role-play in parliament as he did in the past and hoped the opposition would join the coming parliament session.
He called upon all to make Bangladesh a poverty-free, developed country as Bangabandhu dreamt of.
The rally, organized by the campaign committee and APPG, began at 3:40pm.
Former speaker Barrister Jamir Uddin Sircar and Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, among others, were present at the rally.
