Ashuganj Fertilizer Factory shut down

BRAHMANBARIA: Urea fertilizer manufacturing at Ashuganj Zia Fertilizer Factory stopped for mechanical breakdown on Saturday morning, for a fourth time in less than three months.

Factory sources said leakage in Top Asses Dom of High Pressure Carbonate Condenser (HPC) forced the suspension of production of 1500 metric tonnes of urea fertilizer.

The shutdown would force the state-run company to count Tk 1.5 crore daily in production loss.

The factory was closed for a fourth time in the current fiscal due to technical glitch, the sources said.

Managing Director of the factory Usman Gani told banglanews, “Local engineers are trying to repair the fault. It’ll take four days to resume production.”

He informed that at present the factory has 1.50 lakh metric tonnes of urea in store. So, no fertilizer crisis should occur at the moment.
