NEW YORK: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged the developed countries to provide the financial assistance pledged for attaining the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) as she saw it unattainable without funding by the fortunate ones of humanity.
“It is not possible to attain the MDGs without the agreed financial assistance. So, rich countries have to come forward with the assistance,” she told her audience while speaking on the opening day of a three-day MDG conference at the UN Headquarters Tuesday.
The Prime Minister also said Bangladesh wants to attain MDGs by 2015.
UN Secretary-General Ban-Ki-moon inaugurated the three-day conference on the sidelines of the 65th UN General Assembly of world leaders.
The UN Secretary-General, in his inaugural address, called upon the world leaders to work together for building a “beautiful world” for the next generation.
Heads of state and government from 140 countries are participating in the conference to suggest how the universally designated millennium development goals could be achieved within the timeline to help out the underdeveloped segments of the world community.
