DHAKA: Additional Inspector-General of Police (admin) Nabo Bikram Kishore Tripura is going to be appointed ambassador, on the back of a recent top-level reshuffle in the force.
Prime Minister’s Advisor HT Imam has given a directive to the Establishment Ministry to take necessary steps regarding the appointment, according to a source close to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
A letter from the adviser to the department concerned of the Establishment Ministry on September 19 said, “Request is being made to take necessary steps in giving a posting to Additional IGP (admin) Nabo Bikram Kishore Tripura to the Foreign Ministry for appointing him as an ambassador.”
Contacted, officials of the Establishment Ministry, however, declined to speak on the matter.
A competent source said that, on receiving the letter of the PM’s Establishment Adviser, the CV of Tripura is being sent to the President and the Prime Minister Wednesday.
On approval, the Establishment ministry would issue a notification to this effect, the source said, adding, “Then he will be appointed ambassador to a suitable country.”
Earlier on August 31, the immediate-past IGP, Nur Mohammad, was posted under the Foreign Ministry also for a diplomatic assignment.
The government on August 31 made Hassan Mahmood Khandker, director-general (DG) of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), new inspector-general of police (IGP).
Four senior officials were reportedly superseded in the process—and Tripura is one of them.
