OMS again starts Thursday for lean-season rationing

DHAKA: The government is going to start selling rice under Open Market Sale (OMS) programme again Thursday to keep the food-grain price within tolerable levels for low-income people in the lean season.

Sources said the fair-price sale would be conducted through a total of 100 trucks in the capital and the open rationing would also be run in the division and district levels.

Senior Information Officer of Food and Disaster Management Ministry SM Golam Kibria told Banglanews the programme would be conducted through the dealers in the flood-affected upazilas of the country.

“We have fixed Tk 24 for per-kg rice. One person is entitled to buy five-kg rice at a time,” he said.

The operation would start at 9am and continue until stock exhausts everyday of the week, excepting Friday and Tuesday.
