DHAKA: The opposition BNP has proposed to make the Jatiya Party (JP) president Ershad as President of the country for contesting the upcoming parliamentary election as a component of the BNP-led electoral alliance.
Confirming the matter, some of the presidium members of JP said that they have been assured that the proposal came from the highest level.
Wishing anonymity, one of them said that the proposal which was given through the former Prime Minister as well as the presidium member Kazi Jafar Ahmed was conveyed to Ershad.
Some 70 constituencies will be given to JP and 10 ministers will be from JP if the coalition forms government, the proposal includes.
Besides, other administrative positions will be distributed proportionately if they participate and win in the next general election jointly.
JP president Ershad did not make any quick comment in this connection but told that he would discuss with the senior members of the party.
As one of key ally of Awami League-led grand alliance, JP members consider them poorly treated when it comes to the matter of distribution of ministry or other advantages.
Besides, Gazipur City Corporation poll showed that the grass root-level activists are moving against the decision of the party high command which also is a matter of concern for the former President of the country Ershad.
Presidium member Kazi Jafar Ahmed told banglanews, “Many things are going to happen in the politics. I do not want to make any comment on the proposal made by BNP now.”
