DHAKA: Power Division Secretary Monwar Islam said that pre-paid meter will be set countrywide to reduce electricity theft.

He came up with the assertion while addressing a meeting on Performance Target Agreement-2013-14 of Rural Electrification Board on Thursday morning.

Expressing dissatisfaction, Monwar Islam said, “Electricity theft has become a regular matter in various spots through illegal connections. As a result legal meter holders did not get electricity.”

All illegal electricity connections will be disconnected. Besides pre-paid meter system will be launched to legalize illegal connections, he added.

About load-shedding, the secretary said, “There is no balance between power generation and demand. If load-shedding is occurred then there should be made for public announcement.”

With Rural Electrification Board member Masum Al Beruni in the chair, Brigadier General Moin Uddin addressed in the meeting.
